Adding Function and Space While Enhancing the Character of the Home

“I bought this small property in a great location as an investment, with the potential to move in myself in the future. The kitchen was in a tiny, enclosed room (you can see the header where the wall used to be), the layout was not functional, and the cabinetry was more than 40 years old.

My goal was to open-up and expand the kitchen into the dining area to create a small, but highly functional kitchen that would blend in with the Santa Fe style character of the home.

I had a limited budget and used well-priced, quality cabinets. I further saved on cost by using several inexpensive materials, like limestone countertops that shows imperfections over time that go with the character of the house, or a wooden backsplash to add to the character and save on cost for tiles.

Once it was all done, I decided to move in myself and have been enjoying the kitchen ever since.”
